Following the reprint of Daphne Oram’s ‘An Individual Note – of Music Sound and Electronics‘, I’ll be talking about Oram’s life and work at this event celebrating pioneers of music. I’ll be sharing some discoveries about Oram in the archives of Goldsmiths, University of London – material I found while writing her biography for the long-awaited reprint of this book.
Also on the bill is the great Viv Albertine, founder member of The Slits and author of The Sunday Times music book of the year, ‘Clothes, Clothes, Clothes, Music, Music, Boys, Boys, Boys.’ Albertine will be celebrating the women who have inspired her, from Stacie in Hawkwind to Vivienne Westwood; taking in June Child (Marc Bolan’s wife), Sandie Shaw, the bongo player from Kokomo, Yoko Ono, Patti Smith, Ari Up and Nina Simone.
For David Bramwell’s Catalyst Club, an event for Brighton Festival Fringe.
