Our Machines

The Observer Building 53 Cambridge Road , Hastings , East Sussex TN34 1DT, UK

Time

2:00 PM

I’ll be performing with theremin and automata and presenting a new work, Trace, in this celebration of artists and the machines they build. Trace is an excercise in poetic robotics and telepresence. Here, I’m capturing people’s gestures, breaths and other body movements and using them to animate their discarded, everyday objects. I’ll be performing with these new objects then inviting people to try them out.
Trace is supported by public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Thanks also to the Pervasive Media Studio, Watershed, Bristol, and AIR Falmouth for their support.

From the curator, Louise Colbourne:
“Our machines are disturbingly lively, and we ourselves frighteningly inert”,  Donna J Haraway

Our Machines presents a selection of ground-breaking work by artists using digital video installation, celluloid film, light reactive sound, performance, 3D video, audio/noise, scratch video, error based software, robotics, telepresence, scientific cloud data, a theremin and other objects.
