City Reads presents: The Spotted Dog revisited

The Marlborough Theatre Princes Street, Brighton, BN2 1RD

Time

TBD

I’ll be channeling the repertoire, wardrobe and playing style of Dolly, a legendary Brighton pub pianist, known for her tunes in The Spotted Dog, one of Brighton’s only gay pubs in the late 1950s.

This performance is part of fascinating project by City Reads, marking the launch of their latest city-wide book club, which will focus on the new novel My Policeman. Written by Bethan Roberts, My Policeman is a romance set in 1950s Brighton, a time when the lives of gay people were subject to widespread intolerance and legal persecution. For three nights, City Reads will be reading excerpts of the book as they invite you to a meticulous recreation of The Spotted Dog pub, pieced together from archival accounts and interviews with members of GEMS Brighton.
