I’ll be playing a few songs from my forthcoming album, inspired by London folklore, at this If Wet session which focusses on storytelling. The day celebrates the publication of  Jolly Lad, a new book from John Doran of The Quietus.

Jolly Lad is a memoir about the recovery from alcoholism, habitual drug use and mental illness. It is also about the healing power of music, how memory defines us, the redemption offered by fatherhood and what it means to be working class. John will be reading from his book; accompanied by Arabrot.

Josephine Dickson will also be performing. Josephine is a composer, poet and visual artist who has known normal hearing, sudden profound deafness, sudden total deafness, extreme aural hallucinations and, most recently, the experience of sound with a cochlear implant. Josephine studied with Michael Finnissy and Richard Barrett in London, then moved to Cumbria, where she lives on a remote hill farm. Josephine will share her story and explore its implications and possibilities for her practice.

Part show and tell, part test bed for new ideas, If Wet is a sonic workshop run by Sam Underwood and David Morton in a village hall in Callow End, Worcestershire.
